African Synchrotron Light Source Conference 2020

09 Nov 2020

The African Synchrotron Light Source (AfLS2020) conference will be held virtually at ICTP-EAIFR from November 18-20, 2020.

The online conference gathers African scientists and students who have conducted research related to or enabled by the crystal state of matter, and research enabled by modern light sources, along with international colleagues. The strategic components of both conferences includes policy-making sessions.

Applications are solicited by 10 November 2020, and the programme is found here. All events will be held online.

AfLS2020 will review developments in light source-based science as well as further progressing the vision of an African Light Source. This conference will cover topics including Medical Sciences, Heritage Sciences, Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, Energy Sciences, Nano Sciences, Materials Sciences, Mineral Sciences, Accelerator and Detector Sciences, Competitive Industry, Capacity Building and Infrastructures. There will also be sessions on the strategy and vision for an African Light Source.

The conference will be held in both French and English, and both French and English speaking scientists are encouraged to apply.

Institutional supporters include ICTP-EAIFR, the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), the Canadian Light Source/Centre canadien de rayonnement synchrotron, Lightsources for Africa, the Americas, Asia, Middle East and the Pacific (LAAAMP), the South African Institute of Physics, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
