Master's Programme

The ICTP-East African Institute for Fundamental Research offers a two-year MSc in one of three disciplines: Condensed Matter Physics, Physics of the Solid-Earth and High Energy, Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics. In the future more areas will be available.

The masters courses are designed around the ICTP Postgraduate Diploma Programme with an extra first year which is meant to bring students from various countries to a uniform standard. The first year is common to all fields. The second year is devoted to the specialized areas and culminates with a thesis. One can see some of the detailed second year courses below.

If successful, the student will obtain a master's degree in physics from the University of Rwanda.

There are scholarships available for Rwandan students and a small number of scholarships for students from other countries.

Eligibility

To be eligible the applicant must:

  • Have either recently obtained a B.Sc. degree or equivalent, or a higher degree, or they are in the process of completing such a degree.
  • Have the main subject of the degree being physics or a closely related area.
