Master's Programme

The East African Institute for Fundamental Research offers a two-year MSc in one of three disciplines: Condensed Matter Physics, Physics of the Solid-Earth and High Energy, Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics. In the future more areas will be available.

The masters courses are designed around the ICTP Postgraduate Diploma Programme with an extra first year which is meant to bring students from various countries to a uniform standard. The first year is common to all fields (except for numerical methods). The second year is devoted to the specialized areas and culminates with a thesis. One can see some of the detailed second year courses below.

On successful completion, the student will be awarded an MSc from the University of Rwanda.

EAIFR, as an institute in the University of Rwanda, may also give research-based PhDs. If you are interested in undertaking doctoral studies at EAIFR please contact the Director, Omololu Akin-Ojo, at director@eaifr.org.

There are scholarships available for Rwandan students and a small number of scholarships for students from other countries.
